Hi everyone!
Today I am really excited!! As you may remember, my design
Squawk! got finalist at the Connecting Threads fabric design contest.
Since
then I've been working on the supporting prints of the collection and today
they are shown at the Connecting Threads blog! There's also a little bio about
myself!
I started thinking about designing my own fabrics since a
while ago and I found the inspiration to start drawing during my daily visits
to the beach. My partner loves surfing and although surfing isn't for me, I enjoy
spending some time just observing around! California inspires me so much!
I started drawing everything that made me feel alive, the
shape of the lifeguard towers, the busy seagulls, the dolphins jumping few feet
from me, the beautiful seashells that appeared on my way, the footprints on the
sand, all! I didn't want to miss any detail!
Then I realized that would be amazing to have all those
fabulous moments printed on fabric and I started working on it! It was a
coincidence that 2 weeks later I knew about the Connecting Threads fabric
design contest, so I decided to hurry up and get at least one design ready
for the contest! I submitted Squawk! the last day that the contest was open!
Lucky that I did!
I also wanted to show you the color palette I used, the
sunset palette! The first time I saw a sunset in California I thought it was
the most beautiful combination of colors I had ever seen. What I didn't know
yet was that it would be the color palette of my first fabric designs! I love
those colors! So I had no choice...I had to use them on my prints! :)
It has been a dream come true for me to have this opportunity and I really like the little story that my prints try to tell!
Hope you like it too! Here they come:
I can't stop imaging my drawings printed on fabric and all I would like to sew with them!
Thanks for stopping by!
Have a great week!
Ingrid
These are beautiful! I was about to tell you that the dolphins are my favorite, but I don't think I have a favorite because I like all of them. Thank you for sharing about your process. I can see why you were inspired by that color palette - stunning! Best of luck to you in the contest!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'm glad you like it! I really love the dolphins too! :)
DeleteThis is an awesome collection. Really love the seashells. Good luck in the contest.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Laura!
DeleteOh how I love these. This is such an amazing thing. I love to see what fabrics people make. (It's my favorite challenge from Project Runway.)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Crystal!
DeleteI love them all! The palette is perfect! It totally fits your inspiration even though its not what first comes to my mind when I think of the beach.
ReplyDeleteThank you Alexis! I'm glad you like it! :)
DeleteHi Ingrid! Your fabric designs are fantastic! I love how you found the ideas and colours! Beautiful illustrations and colours! x Teje
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteGood luck to you. I have been reading all the posts from all the finalists. I think each of the designers should be declared winners! I'm glad I'm not the one deciding!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Your fabric design is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have your own collection, congrats! Definitely love the duckies and starfish.
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThose are ALL fabulous!!! I can't really pick a favorite because I like them all. The one that seems to be a shell is lots of little images of shells making it up...genius! Thanks for sharing those images with us...I saw your post over at "A Stroll Thru Life" blog party.
ReplyDeleteLove the dolphins & your color choices! You definitely deserved to be a finalist. Designing fabric is on my creative to-do list. Thanks for linking to the Craftastic Monday party at Sew Can Do!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on the Connecting Threads Blog and knew I'd have to order some of these. Congrats on having your design published!
ReplyDeleteHi Ingrid, I love your print ideas, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteGreat designs - love that one with the lifeguard stations!
ReplyDeleteWow!! These are really wonderful designs! I love that the palette is different from what is normally seen with beach themes.
